What a sump pump installation includes

  • A sump basin set in the floor at the low point of the drain system
  • A submersible pump with a float switch
  • A check valve so pumped water does not fall back into the pit
  • A discharge pipe through the wall to an outdoor outlet
  • Often a battery backup pump and an alarm
  • An outlet for the pump, which may need an electric permit

On a new interior drain, the pump is the last piece of the waterproofing system.

How a waterproofing job works with us

  1. Send the form

Your name and phone first, then the address and a few details about the water or the wall.

  2. We get back to you

We call you back to talk through what you're seeing and pick a time to come out.

  3. We inspect and quote

We look at the basement and the outside of the house, show you where the water is getting in, then write up a price.

  4. You decide

The method, the schedule and any permit are settled with you before work starts.

The inspection and the written estimate are free, and you're under no obligation to go ahead.

Sump pump, battery backup and backwater valve

Storms that fill the pit fastest are also the ones most likely to knock out power, and a sewer backup is a different problem again. Each device handles one job.

Sump Pump Installation questions

Does a sump pump need a permit in Medina?
Inside city limits, sump pump waterproofing is listed on the City of Medina's Waterproofing and Foundation Repair permit, and the form notes a separate electric permit may be needed. Outside the city, check with the Medina County Building Department or, in Brunswick, the city Building Division at 330-558-6830.
Can my sump pump drain into the sewer?
Not into the sanitary sewer. Medina County's sanitary code prohibits connecting groundwater, foundation drains or other runoff to a building drain that leads to the public sanitary sewer. Pump it outside to a spot that slopes away from the house and does not flood a neighbor, or to an approved storm connection where your city allows one.
Why does my sump pump run all the time in spring?
Many Medina County soils hold a perched water table close to the surface from fall through early summer, so the drain tile keeps feeding the pit. Constant running can also mean the discharge water is cycling back in through the soil, or the check valve has failed. We check both when we come out.
